The weird video of the day

As if this is something I do every day! Anyway – I found this to be odd enough to put it up here. ENJOY!

What the hell is ESPN Alternate for?

If my memory isn’t as fucked up as ESPN – when the pope dies the MLS season opener will be shown on ESPN Alternate. You know because 24 hours/day news coverage is required for the death of a pope.

So earlier this week I go to tune in the MLS game of the week only to find a college baseball game in the 12th inning. No prob – switch over to ESPN Alternate – but there is nothing there.

So it makes me wonder WHAT THE FUCK IS ESPN ALTERNATE FOR?

Really – what criteria have to be met in order for them to show something on ESPN Alternate? I want to know.

Magic The Gathering Online!

This is so much fun – this is as far as I can get. Anyone else have this problem with Magic Online and Windows Vista? I think I’ll try to install it on my Ubuntu computer and see how it goes there – probably better than here.

Magic Online

EDITED: I got it working on Windows XP – but this program has a horrible user interface in my opinion. I couldn’t figure out how to select a deck and get into a game. I watched a few games and left it at that. Add kidpurple to your friends list if you play online magic – and let me know your username – I’ll add you and lets play.

Keg in the fridge

Tonight was a first for me. As you see I picked up a keg on mini-keg on my way home from work. I happened to be driving my car today because of a reckless challenge in a soccer game last night – but that is a different story. It would be fun to roll into the liquor store and pick one of these things up to take on my bike though!

Anyway – I was told today at work that I should try this 1919 Root Beer. The short time I was in the liquor store with it in my possession I had 2 people tell me how good the stuff was. So I finally got around to trying it. It is good. Come over sometime and I’ll make you a 1919 Root Beer float! I just finished my first ever 1919 Root Beer float.

I guess I’ve never made a bad root beer float. I’m probably the best root beer float maker that there is. Maybe you can do better – I don’t know.

Anybody kayaking?

I just posted on my twitter account something about renting kayaks next weekend to go out on the red river. Then I decided that maybe just buying a kayak would be better. At $7/hour it could rack up a large amount of money pretty quick if it is fun. So I decided to go look (@amazon.com) at kayaks. I found that it could be a very affordable activity to get into.

So I wonder what the quality of these type of inflatable kayaks would be. I have a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and I just may have to order one of these. It will be damm fun to take camping too! So who else wants to get one and go kayaking with me?

Or if you want to go with 2 people you could check out this one. I’d really like to be able to do this with Luke sometime – but he’s probably a little young for that yet. Some day!

Or something like this would probably be a little bit nicer – but probably more expensive for me to just get started with kayaking.

What to do??????

I think I posted something very similar to this probably about 2 years ago. I’ve really wanted to do this for some time now.

Bump Set Spike – maybe that will work for us next point!

I should be a sand volleyball coach. Just for something to do tonight I went out to watch some sand volleyball. I started counting the number of times either team actually successfully pulled off the ol bump-set-spike. I counted the times a team actually got something reasonably better than just a wimpy bump over the net and scored on it. From what I counted I figured maybe about 3% of the time either team was successful with the whole bump-set-spike thing.

So for the mathematically challenged – that leaves 97% of the points scored being attributed to an unforced error. That unforced error was usually after a team had successfully played the ball at least once. One hit that could should have just returned the ball over the net to let the other team make the mistake.

The team I went to watch was 0-3 when I finally took off. I told one guy what they should do – they went 3-0 after I left them with my advise.

Maybe it had to do with them playing a weaker team – but I’d like to think it was my advise. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna quit my job and become a successful rec league class B sand volleyball coach. I bet there is big money in that.

Health screening results

I had this health screening thing today today. Instead of just telling you the results lets have a contest to see who can guess how healthy I am. The winner gets a treasure chest full of gold or something. Take a guess at each of the items below:

TC – Total Cholesterol
100 – 200 Desirable
200 – 240 Borderline
240 – 270 At Risk

HDL – Good Cholesterol
60 – 90 Desirable
40 – 60 Borderline
0 – 40 At Risk

LDL – Bad Cholesterol
80 – 110 Optimal
110 – 170 Near Optimal/Borderline
170 – 200 High
200 – 240 Very High

Triglyceride Level
100 – 150 Normal
150 – 200 Borderline
200 – 500 High
500 – 700 Very High

Glucose (blood sugar)
Less than 100 Desirable
100 – 135 Some Risk
135 – 170+ Potential Risk

Those number come directly from the sheet of paper they gave me with the results. So how poor or how well do you think I did?

Getting my overweight ass into shape!

Just picked up the Wii Fit yesterday and got my body tests all done today. It told me I’m overweight. It lets you choose a number of pounds you’d like to lose and a time period to lose em in. In order to get my weight down low enough to fall out of the overweight category I have to lose over 22 pounds. I’m not sure how much more because 22 is the highest you can go. I suppose they don’t want people using this to lose crazy amounts of weight too fast. It won’t be a lot more than 22 thought, because if I lose 22 pounds my BMI will be 22.xx and I need 22.0 to get down to the “normal” category.

Some of those games are pretty fun – but I think biking to work will help me drops the pounds a lot faster than the Wii Fit.

Canoe trailer… for a bike?

How much fun would kayaking on the river right here in town be? Let me fill you in on a little secret: it would be a lot of fun.

I’ve been kinda thinking about that for a couple years now, but haven’t done anything about it. yet….

Kayaks are (maybe) expensive, but I could have access to a canoe for free. The only thing is I don’t have a vehicle set up to carry a canoe anywhere. But you know what? A canoe is not unreasonable to tow behind a bicycle. There is at least one company that makes canoe/kayak trailers for bikes. They look pretty nice but are fairly expensive.

So I got to thinking about making my own canoe/kayak trailer to pull behind my bike. I’m no welder so the first thing I think of is using some type of PVC pipe. I’ve heard of people using it to make cargo trailers to pull behind bikes. I just don’t know if I could build something with PVC that would be strong enough to carry a canoe.

So you more about this type of stuff than I do. Would that be the right material to use, or is there something else (better) that I could do myself.

Who wants to help me design a canoe/kayak trailer for a bicycle?

Who wants to put it to use with me?

Junkyard bike race

I dare you to try to find a video of something that looks more fun than this. If you think you can – post a link to your video in the comments.
