Here is just a quote from a bike forums I wanted to share with the non-believers:
Anyone who says it’s crazy to ride a bike at night has no friggin clue what they’re talking about. It’s FAR safer at night, assuming you have good lighting. There’s no way anyone isn’t going to see me at night. Plus there’s a small fraction of the traffic.
These people probably got their opinion of nighttime bicycling from nearly running down a ninja cyclist. If they saw you at night lit up, they’d probably change their tune. Or not. Some people think that a mile is an insane distance which humans can only traverse with the aid of a 400 horsepower engine.

I was in a car once at a stop light and some biker ricocheted off of my buddies windshield.
Completely smashed the windshield in, mangled the bikers bike, but lucky for that biker he was wearing a helmet and amazingly wasn’t hurt. The dodge daytona was in pretty bad shape though.
That was during the day, I have never been in a car vs. biker interaction at night.
So I would agree with your post, bikers are in much greater danger during the day. Especially when the biker is going 25mph on sidewalks.
Wait a second… maybe cars are in much greater danger of bikers during the day. Since the record is me getting hit in a car by a biker 1, and me being in a car that hit a biker 0.
Very interesting.
