Sad news about the Le Schwartz

For those of you that don’t know the Le Schwartz - it is a thrift store bike that I purchased last summer. I did some modifications and it because a sort of Frankenstein monster of bikes. It has parts from many different bikes.

Le Schwartz

Well yesterday I caught the side of it with my car a little bit. I didn’t think I did any damage, but later discovered that the fork is bent. I don’t think it is fixable - not by myself at least. So it was sad to know that the Le Schwartz was probably at an end.

But then last night I started thinking that maybe that was a good thing. Until now the frame has matched the fork. I paid $12 for that bike - I could get another $12 bike and combine the 2. It would make my frankenstein monster bike even more of a monster if it had a yellow fork to go along with the blue frame! And if I’m lucky I could end up with a usable seat as well. Other than converting this to a single speed, the seat was the last replacement that I wanted to do. That may have to be the only piece that I buy brand new.

It will take some work - but I think everyone will be jealous when I’m done.

Does anyone have any old 10 speed bikes they’d like to donate to my project? I went to 2 thrift stores today.  At the attic they said the patio wasn’t open until April.  I could see they had some potential bikes back there but they wouldn’t let me go look at them.  At the Dakota Boys Ranch a troll yelled at us for wandering into the back room that was employees only.  They had a few crappy kids mountain bikes was all.

My old 10 speed might still be at my parents place… I will ask. Not sure if they kept the thing or not.

Ditto. I will check on April 17th. If they have it do you want me to haul it back down here?

Scrib - if you want to donate or sell (cheap) an old 10 speed bike I’d be happy to take it off your hands.

    same to your bierwoman.

Maybe we could work out a trade for a printer or scanner that I tried to sell on here a while ago.

I needs no money. I think my parents will be happy to get rid of it. It is an old school red 10 speed. Word.

Old school red 10 speed would probably be the perfect bike for what I want to do. I’m gonna convert it to a single speed, and of course put the upside-down mountain bike handlebar on it!

I have a better idea, get your old bikes out and lets go for a ride. I could do some simple tune-up work on them for you if they need it.

I will only ride my old bike if we get to dress up in costumes and do some crazy night biking! Let’s rip shit up!

I couldn’t find my old red bike when I was back home this weekend. I’ll have to do some more looking next time I am back there.
